Do you want to fly 0-visibiliy, 0-foot ceiling approaches in heavy rain, at night by hand? Want to fly better than the auto-pilot? Well, now you can! This gauge will allow you to fly like the big boys right down to the ground in 0-0 conditions. Just follow the diamond on the screen.
To get everything to work out right, follow these instructions:

1. Go to an airport that has a Cat III, ILS approach.
2. Set in the Frequency into Nav 1 and the appropriate course into the OBS.
3. Position the airplane on final (with jets about 17 miles out works nice).
4. Make sure that the GS is above center. As soon as you start flying, ensure that you hold your altitude so that the GS is intercepted.
5. Select “ALT” in the Auto-Pilot window (with an altitude that is below GS). Also select “APP” (but without arming the CMD this will activate the Flight Director).
6. Once the GS comes through center ALT will disengage and APP will control the descent.

The entire point of this installation is to have an unobstructed view of the runway during the last few critical seconds when you’re in the soup. In order to activate the HUD panel, go into “View,” scroll down to “Instrument Panel” and deselect “Main Panel.” Turn on the view at the bottom of the “Instrument Panel” menu entitled “HUD,” and you’re good to go! The HUD should be in-line with the runway, without the panel blocking your view. Follow the Diamond right down to the numbers if you ever see them! Most importantly, enjoy.
